Painful News

FDA panel suggests reducing dosages of painkillers [ChiTrib 07.01.09]
Government health experts Tuesday proposed reducing the maximum recommended dose of popular painkillers such as Tylenol, and banning prescription drugs such as Vicodin and Percocet, because their active ingredient -- acetaminophen -- can cause liver damage if too much is ingested.

The actions taken by a Food and Drug Administration panel represent a wake-up call to consumers who rely on the medication. ...
“At this point, it sounds like this is just a recommendation from the review panel,” said a Walgreens spokeswoman. “We will await any directive from the FDA before taking any action.”

The UltimSAte Team proved their worth in GOLD as the trendiest teams @ the World Games 2009!

U.S. takes 'Ultimate' gold at World Games

(KOC-CNA, Kaohsiung, July 21) The United States won the gold medal in the World Games "Ultimate" flying disc competition with a 13-6 win over Japan Tuesday, exacting revenge for its only preliminary round loss.

The Japanese defeated the United States 13-11 in the final qualifier Tuesday morning to earn a spot in the gold medal game, but the U.S. capitalized on its size advantage and superior skills and player tighter defense to control the final.

The competition among the Japanese and American rooting sections was nearly as intense as that on the field, with the two groups trying to outdo each other. The Taiwanese fans seemed to favor the Americans.

FOOTy Years Ago

Forty years ago astronaut Neil Armstrong did something no one had ever done before. On July 20, 1969, he set foot on the moon. The world watched and listened as Neil slowly climbed down the ladder of the lunar lander. Then, he stepped on the moon's surface where he could look up & see Earth far above him. There he said these well-known words,
"That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."

If you thought it took forever waiting for a human from Earth to set foot on another celestial body, try loading nasa's website.

No PARK Here

noparkBanning thrown objects at a place to park is more logical than ridiculously preventing it at a park where the object is to enjoy a Frisbee toss.

Canton Park-Goers Question Ball Ban [7.10.09]

CANTON, Ga. -- A city ordinance in Canton has some residents up in arms. Balls, Frisbees (or a combination of both) and just about anything else you can throw is off limits in city parks.

The wide open spaces of Canton's Heritage Park border on the Etowah River. On a warm summer day, it's a perfect place for a walk, a jog or maybe an outdoor game, as long as those games don't involve a ball.

Canton Mayor Gene Hobgood said the ball ban was put in place after joggers and runners complained. Heritage Park is designated as a "passive" park.

Ultimate Line

refbeeSouth Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, already struggling to salvage his family, his political career and his hiking credibility after admitting a scandalous affair, added explosive details during an AP interview.

"There were a handful of instances wherein I crossed the lines I shouldn't have crossed ..., but never crossed the ultimate line," he said.

"This... was a love story," Sanford said. "A forbidden one, a tragic one, but a love story at the end of the day."

Even with the latest revelations, Sanford maintains he is fit to govern & has no plans to resign.

From UPA's Official Rules - 10th Edition:

2. Definitions
7. Line: A line is a boundary defining the playing areas. On an unlined field, the boundary is defined as an imaginary line between two field markers with the thickness of said markers. Line segments are not extrapolated beyond the defining markers.
8. Starting and Restarting Play
2. Pull
5. Positioning before the pull
a. The players on the pulling team are free to move anywhere in their end zone, but may not cross the goal line until the disc is released.
b. The players on the receiving team must stand with one foot on the goal line they are defending without changing position relative to one another.
c. As soon as the disc is released, it is in play and all players may move in any direction.
d. If either team fails to maintain proper positioning before the pull, the other team may audibly announce "Off-sides" and a re-pull ensues. The call must be made immediately.

Off-sides, Mr. Governor.

MI Bad

santisbeeDidja hear about the scandal @ MI6, Britain's Secret Intelligence Service? James Bond would never be caught wearing a Santa hat while playing Frisbee with his children on a beach!

LONDON (AP) - He's the spy who came in from the beach.

Holiday snapshots and family details about the newly appointed head of Britain's MI6 intelligence agency have been removed from a Facebook page after a newspaper told the government about them.

Pictures from the social networking Web site published in the Mail on Sunday newspaper show John Sawers posing with his children, wearing a Santa hat and playing Frisbee on a beach.

The paper said the information was posted by Sawers' wife on her Facebook page. It included vacation photos, details about the couple's three children and the location of their London home.

Shelley Sawers' page has been removed from the site, although a cached page can still be viewed that shows a picture of the spy chief's wife.

Some politicians called the details a security lapse - but others said they revealed nothing but a few mildly embarrassing domestic details.

Flying Disc, E.T.c

blurIt's been 62 years since the "Roswell UFO Incident", or as some investigators like to call them "unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP)" - different from the UPA.

When ranch manager Mac Brazel came across crash debris near his property in 1947, he didn’t know what to make of it and alerted local authorities. That same day, the Roswell Army Air Field sent out a press release that stated a “flying disc” was found; later, this was retracted and the U.S. military told the public it was a fallen weather balloon. This slip sparked a huge conspiracy theory about the government attempting to cover up evidence of UFOs and alien existence; some even say there were alien bodies found in the crash. Now the story is that the balloon was part of Project Mogul, the government’s attempt to pick up on Soviet Union nuclear tests. As a result, Roswell has become a big tourist spot for extraterrestrial enthusiasts.

Whoa, Senior

“This sport is really harder than it looks,” Weinmann said. “I actually thought it would be easy, so I decided to compete in it. Not only is it the most competitive, but it’s also one of the most challenging events they have. You have to make sure you throw it right every time. I really enjoyed the challenge and competing....”
