Review: Minnesota Wind Chill (AUDL)

Part of the series critiquing the professional Ultimate team logos and nicknames.

Team: Minnesota Wind Chill

Representation: State // League: AUDL

Disc within logo?: No. // Ultimate element in team name?: No.

Eli's Eval: I much prefer the new alternative Minnesota Wind Chill logo to the other "disc-in-a-swaddle" logo. It doesn’t have much to do with the wind or being cold, and the type looks more wild west than frigid north, and lone star only reinforces the impression of Texas, not Minnesota. It is cleanly rendered, wholly balanced, and sharply iconic from near or far.

The complete alternate logo also makes me think of cruise missiles raining down with R.O.C. stars on them. Again, cool imagery but not related to ultimate, discs, wind, and cold, with a slightly visually confusing reference to the North Star State.

:Eli's Grades:
Overall Grade: B-

On Typography: C+
Contextual Grade: B-

Background by SLUDGE: (See 2013 review.) In November 2013, Minnesota unveiled this "alternate" logo, which appears more often than their "other" logo.

First impression(s) by SLUDGE: Are the grey stripes supposed to be alpine skis? Design is very similar to the Puerto Rico flag with its one star and stripes.

What are you thoughts on this AUDL's team name & logo?
